'The Skinny: Just do the damn play'

In this "Skinny," I discuss doing "concepts" or "takes" on Shakespeare:

This week, I went to the Provo Library to see The Grassroots Shakespeare Company’s production of the oft-avoided “The Merchant of Venice.”

The play is saddled with antisemitic stereotypes, which makes it baffling and uncomfortable to produce or watch. The villainous Shylock, who demands a pound of flesh of a debtor, is an embodiment of hateful fantasy.
